male monday: adidas makes the lightest basketball shoe ever made

philadelphia 76ers jrue holiday (center) tries out the adizero crazy light. crazy! image via.
9.8 ounces. it's a cup of melted chocolate, a bottle of windex or adidas' new "adizero crazy light," the lightest basketball shoe ever made.

set for public release june 3, they'll set you back $130 and will be available in four colors. an additional six colors will roll out this fall.

several NBA players have already tried out the shoe, which, unlike APL's concept 1 spring-loaded sneakers, will not be banned from the league due to providing unfair competitive advantage.

hmmm. next time I'm playing basketball (which will be...never), I'll imagine wearing a cup of melted chocolate on each foot.

celebrity sunday: khloe kardashian's shoe closet

image via elle
soooo, let's talk shoe closets. mine? disaster. imagine the most disorganized shoe closet possible, and there ya go. shoes thrown in every which way, upside down, on their sides – however they land when I chuck them at the end of the day.

funny, because I'm actually the type of person who loves to be organized! I can't stand a messy house or workspace, and I like knowing where things are. yes, the word "anal" has been used to describe me...such a pejorative term, no?

anyway, khloe kardashian? yeah, now she's organized when it comes to shoes. to wit, a quote from a recent interview she gave elle:

"I love all of my shoes! it is a must to have them color coordinated, and to be able to see each and every one of them. I know exactly where each one lives and I can tell if one has even been moved! it definitely helps to put one shoe facing front, and the other to the back."

image via elle
she puts my shoe closet to shame – in more ways than one.

come to think of it, so does the shoe closet of her hubby, LA lakers player lamar odom. the silvery louboutin sneaks in the middle? I die!

feature shoe friday: the most 'spensive shoes in the world

image via the mirror
okay, so I know taxes aren't due today (here's why), but because april 15 is typically tax day, I thought I'd feature these...the most expensive shoes in the world.

they cost 140,000 british pounds, which equates to roughly $228,312 US dollars. wonder what the tax on those would be.

made of solid gold and more than 2,200 diamonds (30 carats total!), the stilettos were created by british jewelry designer christopher michael shellis. they've been on the market for more than five months, but, uh, no one's purchased a pair yet. (omg. surprise.)

the designer is offering an "eternity" guarantee – meaning the shoes will last 1,000 years.

you know, the thought of saving up for a pair of louboutins was depressing enough. although, I have to ask – who in the world would actually spend that much money on these? I don't even think they're that great!

who? well, apparently sheryl crow and paris hilton have expressed interest in buying a pair. and to that, I say, good for them.

sorry for the late post today, my lovely readers. have a great weekend!

therapeutic thursday: macy's percentage sale

I'm calling this the macy's percentage sale because it involves a lot of percentages:

• 30% off when you buy three or more pairs of shoes
• 20% off when you buy two or more pairs
• 15% off when you buy one pair

the percentage sale is happening online and in stores, but it "ends soon" – so hurry!

well-informed wednesday: seychelles pickford sandal

I was just telling my friend V a couple of weeks ago about how much I heart the brand seychelles. cute, comfortable, affordable shoes – what more could a girl ask for?!

I was delighted to see these new at nordstrom. I'm digging the braided platforms and suede straps. and that olive green color? gorgeous! $99.95.

tacky or not tuesday: virgin atlantic's new red shoes

image via huffington post
so, yesterday, my work friends and I were talking about how virgin atlantic recently announced that all female flight attendants will be required to wear red patent leather high heels on flights.

my friend M jokingly asked if male attendants would have to wear them, too. answering in earnest, I said I thought it'd be really, uh, weird to order females to do something but not require men to comply with the male equivalent (whatever that might be).

lo and behold! richard branson has done it again.

oh, and incidentally, do you suppose the flight attendants are comfortable standing with their feet stuffed in heels for several hours at time?

oh, well. all it means – let's cross our fingers and pray –  is that the public will continue to perceive virgin as employing the sexiest flight attendants on the planet.

so, darlings. tacky or not?

male monday: "walk a mile in her shoes"

image via the shoe dish
image via san jose mercury news
so, a few days ago, an organization called "standing together against rape" sponsored an international event called "walk a mile in her shoes." the walk, meant to raise awareness of sexual violence against women, involved men wearing high heels for a mile-long strut.

okay. great cause. I'm not debating that. rape and violence against women = really, really bad.

that aside, does this particular event strike anyone else as kind of trite and almost flip? I just think there are more effective ways to raise awareness of a serious issue.

that said, it garnered a ton of media attention, so maybe mission accomplished.

what do you think?

celebrity sunday: eva longoria in salvatore ferragamo

image via shoerazzi
I must say, eva's looking pretty good these days, no? (insert reference to divorce from tony parker here.) here she is at a recent david letterman appearance (insert reference to wardrobe malfunction here) looking hot, hot, hot!

I particularly dig her navy blue satin peep-toe pumps by salvatore ferragmo, perfectly suited for her tuxedo. love!

p.s. isn't the guy to the right great? what's he flashing in his right hand?

feature shoe friday: theodora and callum lobiarritz printed linen sandals

don't the words "blue-and-white linen navajo print" just sound pretty?

these beauties remind me quite strongly of a calf-length coat my friend V bought at a secondhand store just last week. they'd go great with a simple white sheath dress and some gold jewelry to warm them up a bit.

$395 at net-a-porter.

therapeutic thursday: tilly's wedge sandals

I used to shop at tilly's for clothes before it took on the more punk-rocker-chick vibe it has going on today. but I have to say, I'm still in love with these wedge sandals (and for so cheap!). alas, all the tilly's around these parts don't have them in my gargantuan size 10. (it's okay, I don't take it personally.)

well-informed wednesday: adidas' musical shoe

image via
how completely rad is this: adidas has created a shoe that makes music when you move your feet.

the company partnered with french coder didier brun for the project, and they gave the first pair of finished shoes to french hip-hop dancers les twins (above wearing white). the duo trained together to create a music video (see it here) with a synchronized dance/song using the shoes.

I'll spare you the details of the complicated technology (which I don't understand myself; you can read more here if you'd like), but suffice it to say the result is pretty sweet.

tacky or not tuesday: pink saddle shoe pumps

there are times when futzing with classic fashion produces something unequivocally better, and times when it doesn't.

I'll let you decide whether the saddle shoe is improved when dyed bubblegum pink and slapped with a tapered heel...!

I, for one, am not a fan. but that's probably because I had a pair of black-and-white (flat) saddle shoes when I was little, and they're forever emblazoned in my mind as simple, timeless perfection – just the way they are.

if you do like these rachel antonoff for bass pumps, they're $108.99 at modcloth.

walk a mile in their shoes: go barefoot tomorrow

in many developing countries, children have to walk miles barefoot to get to school, get medical help, and find clean water. in countries such as ethiopia, shoes are viewed as a status symbol.

to raise awareness, toms shoes is encouraging people to go barefoot tomorrow, april 5, as part of the company's "one day without shoes" campaign.

so if your boss won't fire you, see what it's like to go a single day without shoes.

(ouch.)

male monday: gimme shoes

hey guys (and girls!) who live in/near san francisco: you have to visit a boutique called gimme shoes (if for no other reason than the name, right?). they have three locations (two in hayes valley and one on fillmore), and their selection of shoes is tailored to include styles from both highly reputable brands and lesser-known, high-quality shoemakers.

every time I go in there, I'm amazed at the beautiful selection – particularly the boy shoes. they have a lot of good boy shoes.

things tend to be on the pricey side, but they're the kind of shoes that'll last you 10-plus years.

check out more about the boutique here. all images via gimme shoes.

celebrity sunday: reese's jimmy choo wedding shoes

I know I said friday that I'd wear these to my wedding (happy april fools' day, dear readers!), but I've since changed my mind. the $645 jimmy choo macy satin platform sandals that reese witherspoon wore to her recent wedding? I covet!

image via jimmy choo

witherspoon, 35, tied the knot with talent agent jim toth at her rustic country home in ojai, california, while donning a monique lhuillier gown. A-list guests included renee zellweger, matthew mcconaughey and isla fisher.

and her jimmy choo shoes, of course.
