on second thought...

you know, instead of wearing those 5-inch heels you were planning to on new year's eve, maybe it'd be better to opt for a nice (steady, stable, reliable, safe) pair of wedge ankle boots. stilettos + heavy drinking = ouch!

bowie by report for $89.99

wafer by boutique 9 for $199.95

aura by DKNY for $171

suede wedge ankle boots by bottega veneta for $608.99

tacky or not tuesday: j shoes' dorothy

so, what's up with the furry animal-like flower thing growing out of the side of this heel? that it's removable speaks to the fact that, well, it should be removed.

in which, case they're not so bad. alas, as is, tacky or not? verdict: tacky!

what's your opinion?

want to know what I don't understand?

I'll tell you.

when you see the word "sale" on a retailer's website, you might not expect a huge percentage off, but you certainly expect something kinda sorta significant, right?

while browsing nine west's sale section, I came across these electric blue meredith peep-toes that I like, but they're $99.99...down from $110.

nine west gave us a whole $10.01 off.

in that case, you can keep it, nine west!

friday's shoe of the week: zara court shoe with heel

since wearing 5-inch heels to the office is, sometimes, not a good idea, I'm always on the lookout for more demure heels that still exude style and personality.

these zara heels for $89.90 sum that up pretty well. I love the texture and bright color, but also the fact that you could wear them with a black pencil skirt quite nicely for the workday.

thrifty thursday: jcrew's langford wool high heel oxfords

omg.

I about died when I saw that these langford wool high heel oxfords are on sale at jcrew.com...and only in my size! I'd eyed these months ago but cringed at the $295 price tag.

though the current price of $199 isn't cheap, necessarily, it's $100 cheaper. :-) so if you wear a size 10 or 11, check it out!

net-a-porter sale!

when I was a kid, my family always celebrated christmas on christmas eve – the big meal, board games, movies on TV and – duh! – opening presents. (christmas day, by the way, was always sort of...lackluster in comparison.)

this year it will be no different, so I've been scouting around for some christmas eve shoes...even though it's only two days away! can you believe it?

lucky for me, it seems as though retailers are making a last-ditch effort to get people to buy, buy, buy, and marking down product in a big way. one example? net-a-porter. check it out:

tabitha simmons bam satin pumps, down from $955 to $286.50

acne daring suede ankle boot, down from $830 to $581

marc by marc jacobs, down from $165 to $132.50

stella mccartney lace-covered pump, down from $645 to $193.50

jimmy choo suave satin sandals, down from $495 to $247.50

giuseppe zanotti ruched suede ankle boots, down from $795 to $238.50

and last but not least...omg. my beloved stella mccartney thigh-high satin boots, down from $1045 to $522.50 (yeah, I think I'll buy them now...ha.)

one for one

'tis the season for giving, right? consider giving a pair of toms shoes to a loved one this year, and you'll actually be giving two people a pair of shoes – for every pair of shoes purchased, toms gives a pair to a child in need. their slogan is "one for one."

it all started in 2006 when american traveler blake mycoskie discovered that children in argentina had no shoes to protect their feet. mycoskie then created toms, and later that year, he returned to argentina with a group of family, friends and staff – and 10,000 pairs of shoes made possible by toms customers.

toms has also received support from high-profile celebrities such as keira knightley, cameron diaz and demi moore, as well as an aggressive internet marketing campaign. the company's shoes range from comfy flats to glittery slip-ons to wedges. prices range around $50, and think of all the good you're doing.

get to it!

tacky or not tuesday: "words can't express" heels

I find it kind of interesting funny that this heel from the brand irregular choice (via modcloth) is called the "words can't express heel." there's a lot...going on here, and I'm not sure it works. it almost appears as if the shoe is going to take flight any minute...

on the other hand, the red scallop quilting is sweet, and the use of alllllll those different patterns – from polka dots to sequins to plaid to stripes – is creative. you have to say it's creative.

tacky or not? verdict: surprisingly, not! though they're certainly not the most versatile shoes in the world...

dear readers, what do you think?

uh...wtf

I try not to re-post things I've seen on another blogs verbatim, but I just couldn't help it on this one that I saw via the shoe girl – wtf?

massimo dogana for – get this, it's the best part – $1095. I mean, I guess...if you really want the edgy, "I don't care what you think" factor? or something? and besides...if you're going to say "eff you" on the platform of a shoe, then say it! don't bleep it out with stars. pshhh.

dogana, however, gains back some credibility with this lovely, high-contrast suede boot. love the deep sapphire blue color.

I'm trying to find something very specific: shoes with textured flowers. any suggestions?

very truly yours,
budding shoe enthusiast

dear budding,

flower away, my dear! shoes with textured flowers are everywhere. you don't mention your price range or exactly what kind of shoe you're looking for (flat, boot, sandal, etc.), but take a look at what we found from ruche, an online boutique with some great finds (nothing shown here is more than $100, either!):

hope this gives you some idea of what precisely you're looking for. keep on budding!

sincerely,
