male monday: "walk a mile in her shoes"

so, a few days ago, an organization called "standing together against rape" sponsored an international event called "walk a mile in her shoes." the walk, meant to raise awareness of sexual violence against women, involved men wearing high heels for a mile-long strut.
okay. great cause. I'm not debating that. rape and violence against women = really, really bad.
that aside, does this particular event strike anyone else as kind of trite and almost flip? I just think there are more effective ways to raise awareness of a serious issue.
that said, it garnered a ton of media attention, so maybe mission accomplished.
