tacky or not tuesday: woman lies to undergo taxpayer-funded surgery to fit into designer shoes

yep, can you believe it?!

this story, out of england, is about hannah bailey, who was referred for foot surgery four years ago after persistently complaining to her doctor that she was in unbearable pain. the surgery cost 5,000 british pounds (about $8,000) and was funded by the NHS, england's publicly funded healthcare system.

she admitted this weekend that the surgery wasn't necessary – she was just frustrated that her "wide and ugly" feet prevented her from fitting into the designer shoes she coveted.

during the surgery, surgeons broke each foot in four places, cut her tendons and ligaments, and stapled two-inch screws to her bones.

since the surgery, bailey, now 23, has spent about 9,000 pounds – roughly $14,600 – on designer heels, including her favorite jimmy choos. (good thing the NHS was around...I mean, clearly she's poor!)

the best part? direct quote: "I don't feel guilty about getting my feet done on the NHS...now, I'm happy with my feet and I only wear designer shoes."

so, tacky or not? my dear readers, need you ask?!

and here's hannah bailey:
